There’s a certain glow about our butchers this Spring as we’ve had a flurry of good news at various competitions and events.
First up, we have to give a big shout out to our Butcher Brothers, Joe and Robbie, who excelled themselves at The Battle of The Butchers hosted by Dalziel UK, at The Great Yorkshire Showground on Sunday 5th March.
Butchers from all over the UK & Ireland compete in this epic battle. The brothers were given one hour to butcher a surprise selection of meat:
- pork loin
- 2 chickens
- back bacon
- leg of lamb
- bed piece (beef)
Mid-April saw David and Emma heading to Butchers’ Hall in London for the Smithfield Awards.
Our Smoked Back Bacon, made from Colin Piercy’s wonderful outdoor-bred pigs, was awarded the Diamond Award for best in the artisan home-cured bacon category. Q Guild Butchers are pretty remarkable craftsmen so to win amongst such esteemed competitors is a true highlight.
The Smithfield Awards ceremony is always a cracking event, with all of us relishing the chance to catch up with industry friends and share ideas.
We have been delighted to have been shortlisted for the Butcher’s Shop of the Year in the North of England. We were overwhelmed to win the award in 2017; however as you all know, our business and our shop have gone a significant overhaul since then!
We felt the time had come to pitch ourselves against the rest and take the temperature again. We’ll have mystery shoppers and judges visiting, and will find out how we’ve fared in early May.
Team Lishman have been partying recently at the Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley with the great and the good of our fantastic town. We were chuffed to come away with a Special Recognition Award in the 2023 Ilkley Business Awards.
“A name synonymous with Ilkley, Lishman’s are great ambassadors for the town, with many people visiting to shop in their store.
Continuing to focus on the future, building online and trade sales as well as providing the personal service and expertise in their newly refurbished shop.”
We’ll keep you all posted on awards updates, but in the meantime if you’ve been wondering why there’s been a spring in our steps over the last few weeks, that’s why!
