Stuart: the man, the meat, the music

Celebrating our Stu – 25 years at Lishman’s

Back in the day

Stuart started with us in 1998 when we had just 4 in the team, and quickly became utterly indispensable. Posh & Becks had got engaged, Bill Clinton & Monica Lewinsky were all over the press… and a smiling, talented butcher from Guiseley with a passion for cricket got selected for our squad.

(Digital cameras and smartphones clearly weren’t yet a thing either, judging from the quality of our first staff snap.)

Stuart Baker: Bantams Fan

Our customers and farmers love him for his banter into the highs and lows of his beloved team at Valley Parade, as well as for his no-nonsense approach to ensuring that they come away with the most delicious meat.

Stuart absolutely loves his steaks and is passionate about sourcing and serving the best food.

Father figure

in 2010, Stuart took Joe under his wing when he started as an apprentice.

Always happy to share his wit, wisdom and experience with the younger generation, Stuart has been a rock to many of the Lishman’s crew as they’ve grown up, and feels like a ‘second dad’ to Joe.

Stuart only started going grey when Joe came on board… can’t be a coincidence!

Belting out the bangers

Working in the shop with Stuart before the doors open, is like being on an episode of Stars In Their Eyes back in the 90s.

Belting out the Power Ballads and working his way from Whitney to Britney; Sheena Easton to Shania our Stu can’t half belt out some classics.

Here’s to another 25 years of Stuart’s singing whilst setting up the shop!

Congratulations from all of us, Stuart – you’re a complete and utter legend
